Hanson Bay Wildlife Sanctuary is situated on the western end of Kangaroo Island, and bordered by over 100,000 acres of protected wilderness lands and the Great Southern Ocean. We are connected to the Kangaroo Island Wilderness Trail that’s walking access to remarkable rocks, and surrounded by pristine beaches, spectacular coastline, old growth maritime bushland and forest plus abundant wildlife. Hanson Bay Wildlife Sanctuary offers four log and two modern self contained cabin accommodation, each with spectacular views of our beautiful setting.
Our guided nocturnal tours and guided and unguided daytime walks of the Sanctuary let’s you experience Australian native marsupials up “close and personal”, as we are famous for the abundant native bird and animal wildlife. You will encounter animals such as Koalas, Kangaroos, Tammar Wallabies, Possums and Echidnas, as well as the worlds most prolific populations of Rosenburg Goanna’s, Short beaked Echidna’s (the world oldest mammal) and Bush Stone Curlew’s. Our Koala Walk is open every day and is the best place on Kangaroo Island to see a sustainable population of Koalas living in the wild.
