With a bloodline going back to Army Special Operations, Tasmanian Mountain Guides (TMG) has hit the Tasmanian trekking scene with all guns blazing. Based in Launceston, TMG specializes in single and multi day remote area trekking in the Tasmanian wilderness. They also offer courses including a one-day wilderness prep course, three-day navigation course, five-day winter skills course, and a five-day snow skills course based around Mt Bogong in Victoria.
“ Tasmanian Mountain Guides teaches clients to become competent trekkers. Having spent time all over the world, we’ve seen people doing things which have been at best, questionable and at worst, dangerous! We prepare and build confidence in our clients to ensure they not only have a great time, but also can go safely on their own unguided trips in the future.
The way TMG approach all their treks is simple. A full day of introductory lessons covering topics such as navigation, first aid, safety in the mountains, principals of keeping warm, nutrition, hygiene, ‘leave no trace’ principals and trip planning are included in every package. All of this is done in a relaxed classroom environment – and they even provide lunch!
TMG’s passion to ensure trekkers have a safe enjoyable time in the mountains has led to the recent release of “the hiking app”, which addresses all of the topics covered during the pre trek introductory lessons.
Following the lessons, clients are shown how to pack their gear and importantly, how to wear a pack to achieve ultimate comfort and safety. TMG provide the best quality equipment, as part of the trek fee, there is no hiring of gear at TMG.
Clients are encouraged, and readily seek advice post trek from the TMG team if they are considering an unguided activity in the future, or want some advice on the right gear to buy.
TMG are happy to customize treks for both men and women of all ages. Client to guide ratios are kept low, and in most cases there will be no more than two clients per guide, giving you personalized service, advice and a fabulous time while trekking through some of the most spectacular scenery in the world.
